RESIDENTIAL SPECIAL FOCUS WEEKEND

Tutors - John Grimes and Jane Scoffham (Young)

All yoga teachers adapt and modify postures in their regular classes. Chair yoga is just an extension of that skill set that teachers already have but teachers are often reticent to transfer these skills into chair yoga, worried of doing any harm to the students.

The objective of this workshop is to give everyone attending the confidence and experience of teaching yoga to students in chairs. Attendees will experience being a chair yoga student in two classes giving them the tools to create a lesson plan and modify and adapt postures. They will then explore modifications and adaptations of various postures and then experience teaching a chair yoga class to the group in a safe and protective and encouraging environment. The workshop will also include assisting the students in movement and the practicalities of working with a student in a wheelchair. There will be room for open discussion, intuition, ideas and creative ways of working.

JOHN GRIMES John holds the Yoga for Health Foundation's general and remedial training certificates. John is also a qualified yoga therapist with the Yoga Biomedical Trust (YBT) and the International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT). John has been teaching chair yoga classes for over 10 years, for a blind group, the Alzheimers society and Age UK. He also includes students on chairs in his general classes.
JANE SCOFFHAM (YOUNG) I have the Yoga for Health Foundation General, Remedial and Ayurveda Training Certificates and a British Wheel of Yoga Teaching Diploma. I have been teaching chair and wheelchair yoga for 10 years to students with MS, ME, those who have suffered strokes and people with physical disablement. I also use chairs in general classes.

The full programme will be sent to attendees prior to the event.
